AARRON EMPERATO JOINS DON SJOGREN COMMUNITY YMCA AS NEW
SPORTS DIRECTOR

The Don Sjogren Community YMCA is excited to welcome Aarron Emperato as the new Sports
Director. Emperato brings a strong background in coaching, officiating, and program development,
along with a deep passion for sports and community engagement.

Originally from a military family, Emperato has lived all over the U.S., giving him a broad perspective
on community involvement through athletics. He holds a degree in General Business with a minor in
Marketing and has built a diverse resume that includes coaching youth basketball and football,
officiating high school sports, and volunteering for over a decade with the Armed Services YMCA in
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

“I wasn’t exactly looking for this opportunity, but the opportunity found me,” Emperato said. “Since
arriving in Holdrege, I’ve realized what a special community this is, and I’m excited to contribute to
the YMCA’s strong tradition of sports programming.”

Emperato co-founded the Pulaski Sports Association, a program partnered with NFL Flag Football,
and he has experience in everything from coaching and scorekeeping to setting up and running
leagues. His well-rounded skill set makes him a strong fit to lead and expand the YMCA’s sports
offerings.

In his new role, Emperato plans to expand opportunities for youth and adults by introducing new
programs such as:

  • 3v3 basketball tournaments
  • A women’s basketball league
  • Alumni sporting events

“My goal is to make sure that everyone, no matter their skill level, has a place in our programs,”
Emperato said. “Whether it’s youth leagues, adult recreation, or introducing adaptive sports, I want
to ensure that every person in our community has an opportunity to participate.”
Beyond sports programming, Emperato is focused on strengthening partnerships with local schools
and organizations to expand opportunities for young athletes and recreational players alike.
“Sports bring people together from all walks of life,” Emperato said. “By working with local schools
and organizations, we can create more opportunities for community members to get involved and
stay active.”

A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and former college football wide receiver at Grand View University
in Iowa, Emperato understands firsthand the impact that sports can have on personal growth and
leadership.

To families considering YMCA sports programs, he has a simple message:
“It’s a great way to be active, have fun, and make lasting friendships. Whether you’re just starting or
have years of experience, there’s a place for you at the YMCA.”

The Don Sjogren Community YMCA is looking forward to the future of its sports programming under
Aarron Emperato’s leadership. For more information on upcoming sports leagues and programs, visit
