Iron Horse Arts District Presents Poetry Showcase & Discussion

HOLDREGE, Neb. – The Iron Horse Arts District is proud to host a Poetry Showcase and Discussion on Tuesday, April 15 starting at 6pm at the Nebraska Prairie Museum. This special event will feature live readings by local and regional poets Alizabeth McDermott, Andrea Skiles, and Madison Gerkin, followed by a discussion on why “Poetry Matters” from former Nebraska State Poet Matt Mason.

This event is part of National Poetry Month, celebrated each April to recognize the vital place poetry holds in our culture and lives. Attendees will experience a variety of poetic styles and voices, from thought-provoking spoken word to lyrical storytelling—all reflecting the unique perspectives of artists in and outside of Phelps County. Whether you’re a poetry enthusiast, a curious newcomer, or simply looking for a night of creative inspiration, the Poetry Showcase offers something for everyone.

The Iron Horse Arts District would like to thank our event sponsors, whose support makes events like this possible. Their continued investment in the arts helps bring meaningful, community-driven events to life in Holdrege and the surrounding region.
Humanities Nebraska (HN) provides major funding for this program. HN receives support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Nebraska State Legislature, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, and private donations.

With the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
Holdrege Area Friends of the Library and the Nebraska Prairie Museum are generous sponsors of this program.
Thank you to Family Fare in Holdrege for providing refreshments.
